DEW Engineering delivers comprehensive ballistic, blast, mine, and specialty armour systems engineered to protect personnel, vehicles, aircraft, and mission-critical infrastructure across today’s evolving threat environments.

Engineering, integration and testing

Our advanced composite and integrated armour solutions are designed to deliver lightweight, mission-specific protection across land, air, and sea, addressing kinetic, blast, and fragmentation threats while helping preserve mobility, payload, and platform performance. These systems can be deployed as standalone kits, integrated during vehicle production, or incorporated into naval, aviation, and shelter platforms, supporting adaptable protection for defined operational requirements.

Backed by deep expertise in survivability engineering, DEW Engineering develops armour systems that help platforms endure attack, preserve mission capability, and protect crews across vehicle, aircraft, naval, and shelter applications.

Land platforms

Enhanced Protection for New & Legacy Platforms

Our add-on armour systems mount directly onto vehicle hulls, giving armed forces the flexibility to increase survivability without redesigning the base platform.

Ballistic / Kinetic Armour

Designed to defeat high-energy penetrators such as heavy machine gun and cannon rounds. Add-on ballistic kits are typically aligned with STANAG protection levels and provide multi-layered stopping capability for medium and large-calibre threats.

Mine Protection

Engineered to mitigate explosive forces encountered when a vehicle passes over anti-vehicle or anti-personnel mines. These solutions focus on:

  • Blast energy attenuation
  • Fragment capture
  • Protection from cone-shaped dispersal patterns generated during detonation
Blast / IED Protection

Add-on blast armour reduces damage and injury resulting from roadside bombs, VBIEDs, and offset explosive threats. These systems combat:

  • Lateral blast waves
  • Overpressure
  • High-speed fragmentation

Together, these modular armour systems can be scaled and combined to meet customer threat assessments while maintaining mobility and vehicle performance.

Crew protection

Internal Protection for Crew Survivability

Spall liners are installed inside the vehicle to capture high-velocity fragments generated when external armour stops a projectile. Even successful armour defeats can create dangerous internal spall.

Benefits and integration

Spall liners deliver:

  • Fragment mitigation from hull deformation
  • Increased survivability in confined crew spaces
  • Overmatch threat reduction, narrowing the fragmentation cone from shaped-charge jets
  • Retrofit capability for existing fleets

Lightweight and effective, composite spall liners provide critical secondary protection that complements external armour systems while helping manage overall vehicle weight.

Protection Engineered Into the Vehicle From Day One

Integrated armour solutions are developed directly with OEM partners and are built into the vehicle during manufacturing. By incorporating advanced composite armour into the vehicle structure from the outset, this approach optimizes weight distribution, enhances structural performance, and addresses specified threat requirements while balancing design, mobility and payload.

Benefits and integration

Features include:

  • Built-in ballistic, blast, and mine protection
  • Advanced composite armour layers bonded to the vehicle hull
  • Improved strength-to-weight performance
  • Turnkey integration services

DEW Engineering supports full lifecycle integration—design, manufacture, and installation.

Fixed and rotary wing

Aircraft protection

Lightweight Protection for Airborne Operations

Aviation platforms require precise, weight-optimized armour solutions, making advanced composites a critical part of aircraft survivability. Protection is targeted to vital areas where it has the greatest impact on crew survival while minimizing weight penalties and preserving mission performance.

Fixed-Wing Aircraft

Protection may include:

  • Underside cockpit armour
  • Side panels
  • Armoured pilot seats

Levels are defined by specific weight allocations and mission profiles, for example, ground-attack vs. high-altitude transport.

Rotary-Wing Aircraft

Helicopters often receive:

  • Floor armour against ground fire
  • Armoured seating for pilots and crew
  • Tailored composite solutions

Ceramic composites—such as boron carbide—are frequently used for their exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, enabling lightweight ballistic protection for demanding air platform requirements.

Deployable infrastructure

Armoured shelters

Deployable Protection for People and Assets

Armoured shelters can be designed from the ground up or created by upgrading existing containerized structures. Whether built from scratch or retrofitted, each shelter is engineered with integrated ballistic and blast‑mitigation features that safeguard troops during forward‑deployed operations, ensuring critical personnel remain protected even in high‑threat environments.

Purpose-Built Armoured Shelters

Custom-engineered to meet ballistic and blast requirements, applications include:

  • Command & control modules
  • Communications hubs
  • Drone launch & recovery operations
  • Mobile operations centers

These shelters integrate power, HVAC, IT, and mission-specific systems and are designed to protect deployed personnel in high‑threat environments.

Retrofit Armoured Containers

Standard ISO containers can be enhanced with:

  • External armour panels
  • Internal spall liners
  • Structural reinforcement
  • Ballistic windows and doors

Retrofits provide a cost-effective path to rapidly deploy protected infrastructure.
